Week of Sept. 6
Schedule - Mrs. Milford is here on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Mrs. Wedman is in class Tuesday and Thursday. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
In Social Studies we have begun the first unit called Physical Geography of Canada. We are doing some puzzle activities and reading some literature to review the provinces, territories and capitals.
In Language Arts we are finishing up our first sequence for the book “Memoirs of a Goldfish” and working on our second sequence “City Dog Country Frog”. Students have been setting criteria for respectful listening, powerful speaking, and sending /receiving images. We are working on building community in our classroom and will make a community quilt. Our inquiry question for the week is “How do we build community in our classroom?”
In Math we will be working through and introduction to our inquiry question “How do we use patterns in everyday life?”
Focus I Can Statements for this week:
Science/Social- I can identify how natural disasters and severe weather have been part of Canada’s physical geography
Social – I can appreciate the geographic vastness of Canada.
Math – I can continue a pattern on paper.
LA – I can describe characters’ qualities based on what they say and do and how they are described in different texts.
I can use my experiences with other texts to create my own texts
Home Reading- Please have your child read at least 20 minutes per night. we do not need this recorded however it is an expectation.
Working with Words - Please see note
Volunteering - If you are interested in volunteering for school field trips or at school, please make sure you have a criminal record check and a child welfare check in at the office (it can take a few weeks to get back).
Be Green- To go along with our school wide “7 Habits of Being Green” program, students will have Be Green charts on their desk for the week. They will fill in a colour for their behaviour for the block (green, yellow, orange, red) each day. They will put a reflection at the end of the week related to their community goal that you can talk about. Please sign in the agenda at the end of the week.
Class Webpage - We have started a webpage that we will update throughout the year. It will have student work on it as well as curricular links and resources your child can use at home. We will have the homenotes on there and a blog that we will update with the happenings of the week. Portfolios and Forms - Thank you for returning the forms. Please continue to return them. If you have not returned your portfolios, please do so as soon as possible.
