In this project you will learn more about the lives and achievements of five visionary women from Alberta who have become known simply as the Famous Five.
Thinking like a historical researcher, create a representation to demonstrate the importance of one of the Famous Five in history.The five women were:
You will use a graphic organizer - image detail or what's important and why to arrange your information as you research.
Recount the life and contributions of the famous person you have chosen to research.
Use these guiding questions to help you with your inquiry:
What was the issue/historical background?
Who was affected by the issue?
Who was involved in changing it?
When did it take place?Where did it take place?
Why was the issue important?
How did the contributions of this specific individual affect individual rights in Canada?

- Emily Murphy (the British Empire's first female judge);
- Irene Marryat Parlby (farm women's leader, activist and first female Cabinet minister in Alberta);
- Nellie Mooney McClung (a suffragist and member of the Alberta legislature)
- Louise Crummy McKinney (the first woman elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, or any legislature in Canada or the rest of the British Empire) and
- Henrietta Muir Edwards (an advocate for working women and a founding member of the Victorian Order of Nurses).
