Rick Hansen and Terry Fox are two amazing Canadians that have many qualities that show our Canadian Identity. As you read or watch about them today, think about what we have been talking about with building a respectful community and about leaving our "Canadian Footprint". What qualities do you have that are similar to Rick Hansen and Terry Fox. What do you want to do to make a difference today?

What a great word list we were able to develop from what you have worked on with the KWHL chart in science the past couple of days. With the big question being:
How does weather affect the quality of life of living things and how do living things affect weather?? You were able to use our web and come up with amazing words in science today. Here they are in a footprint from Image Chef! We have only just begun! How do we leave our footprint on the weather? Can humans cause change in weather? Great job today with creating our KWHL and new Science inquiry question today 5MW!!!
We had some great conversation about what our class already KNEW about weather, what we WANTED to know about weather, and HOW we wanted to learn about weather... You helped me think outside the box!!!! So what did our question end up being??? How does weather affect the quality of life of living things and how do living things affect weather?? We may need to tweek it a bit but I think I like it!! What do you all think?? Also, keep thinking about which Canadian artists you would like to feature in music in the next few weeks... What a great end to the 3rd week of learning! We have been working really hard at building criteria for our learning over the past few weeks to help build a classroom community that is respectful and open, allowing everyone to be risk takers.
I was really impressed with the reflections that I saw with math logs today. It was interesting to see everyone's ideas and how different they were! What are some new ideas that you have after completing the problem for setting up the grade one open house? Any connections? Questions? We are definitely getting better at reflecting on what we are learning about-and this is a hard thing to do. Way to go 5MW!! I am looking forward to another fun-filled week! See you Monday--and keep the poetry coming!! I love being in grade 5! We had a fabulous day of learning - Canadian footprints, designing grade one open house, and discovering an image for Fall in our own way. Our read aloud book has had some poetry in it and a challenge for students today was to go home and write their own poem to share. here is one already:
Books an original poem by Jacea! A book is like a great friend whos friendship lasts until the last page's end books you'll love them I know you will What will you write about? As Edgar's teacher says "A Poem is a gift". Another poem by Taylor: Canada is a family, that brings us all together. Although it has its own identity, we're all a part of it you and me We had a great day of learning today! We have started some really interesting discussions in Social and Science. What is it to be Canadian and what does our Canadian footprint look like? I look forward to the ideas that come from our gallery walk tomorrow. We have also begun an inquiry journey in Science...where will the things we know about weather and what we want to know about weather lead us?
5 MW First Day of School on PhotoPeach We finally got the first day of school pictures into a slideshow - yay! Even though we have had some changes, grade five is one big community at Lochearn.
What a great day of learning! We were able to make our mission statement for our class. It is such a powerful statement!
In 5 M/W we are 3 R's: - responsible for our own actions - role models in our classroom and school community -respectful listeners This is a great class of role models for our school. What is one way you could be a role model in our classroom or school community? It was an amazing first day of school! I have missed all of you so much! I can't believe how well we got our supplies sorted out. Beginning with the "Memoirs of a Goldfish" book was a great way to start and discuss about respectful listening, powerful speaking, and sending and receiving images.
Our big inquiry question brought some great discussion around feelings which was one of our goals during "Memoirs of a Goldfish" . I loved how we were able to talk about being in someone else's shoes and how our actions affect other people- part of starting our own community! What a great day! It was great to hear how your summer was and I can not wait for tomorrow. Please comment about your summer on here and feel free to share what books you read as well. |
